What's this about?
The 2004 qurank Climbing Photo Competition has three aims:
  1. To get people involved and excited about Australian climbing photography.
  2. To showcase and reward the talent of individuals who might not otherwise get to display their work.
  3. To promote qurank and foster the development of the climbing community.
Everyone is encouraged to participate!

Okay, I'm in! How do I enter?
  1. Go through your collection and find your best five images (five is the maximum, you can submit less).
  2. Decide which category they belong to (sport, trad or ropeless).
  3. Pay the $5 entry fee. This very small fee allows you to participate in the competition. If you cannot pay by credit card for some reason, contact us.
  4. Ensure your images meet the submission rules .
  5. For each image you submit, it is advisable for you to include the following information:
    • Category the image belongs to
    • Name of climber, or people in the shot
    • Details of what they're climbing
    • Location
    • Approximate date the shot was taken
    • Details of the shot itself (film type, camera type etc.)
  6. Email your images along with the above information to [email removed]
Submissions close: Friday 26th March 2004!

Submission rules
  • Only submit images for which you were the person who clicked the shutter button!
  • Only submit images that have not been previously published in print media.
  • Format: Images must be digital, emailed to [email removed]
  • File size: Images must not exceed 250kb each.
  • Max size: Images must not exceed a maximum width or height of 1200 pixels.
  • Min size: Images must be at least 600 pixels in either width or height.
  • If your images do not conform to the sizing requirements, we will contact you to discuss the options.
  • Number of entries: Maximum of five images per entrant. These can go in any category in which they fit (e.g. five images in the sport category, or two in sport, two in trad, and one in ropeless etc.). For our purposes, a "trad" climb is one in which natural protection is placed, regardless if it has some bolts. Ropeless shots can be anything that doesn't have a rope in it.
  • Digital manipulation: This is a tricky one. We'll allow cropping and subtle colour correction, but photos that are found to have been manipulated beyond this will be disqualified. You're being judged by the best and your images will be carefully scrutinized - so be very careful!
  • No professional photographers allowed (someone who derives their primary income from climbing/outdoor photography).
  • Only images from within Australia will be accepted.
  • We can't afford to post prizes overseas, so only apply if you're living in Australia.
  • Entrants must have a qurank member account (if you don't, just create one!)

Terms and conditions
  1. This is intended to be a fun and fair competition! All actions taken by the competition organisers will be towards this end.
  2. All images submitted will be displayed in online galleries, in a random order as the competition progresses. Photographers names will not be attributed to their images until after the competition is finished.
  3. The photographer retains all rights to all submitted material.
  4. Entry fee is non-refundable.
  5. The judges' decision is final.
  6. The qurank webmaster reserves the right to add to these conditions, or modify existing conditions during the competition if it is deemed necessary to ensure the fairness of the competition.
  7. All winners will be announced by the qurank webmaster on qurank.com in late March or early April. Winners will also be notified by email.
  8. Judging will be fair and impartial. Judges will not collaborate during the judging process. No photographer names will be attached to images, so the judges will not know who they're judging until after the competition is over. The scores from each judge will be averaged by the qurank webmaster to determine the winners. This is the fairest possible process we've been able to devise.
  9. An individual may only win a prize in a single category. If, based on the scores from the judges, an individual wins prizes in more than one category, their highest place will be the one that counts, the other will be ignored. If they win the same place in more than one category (e.g. they come first in sport and trad), their most convincing win (based on points) will be the one that counts, with the other ignored. The aim of this is to maximise the number of prize winners.
  10. Anyone who is deemed to have a vested interest in qurank will be ineligible from entering.
