The following symbols and abbreviations have been used throughout this guide:

Recommended

This climb is well worth doing.

Sport

This climb is a "sport route" and can be led entirely on fixed protection (in some cases belays may still require natural gear).

Warning

This climb is more dangerous than your typical Glasshouse route. Take care!*

BB

Single bolt belay. Requires a portable hanger or bolt bracket to use.

BR

Bolt Runner. Requires a portable hanger or bolt bracket to use.

DBB

Double bolt belay. Requires two portable hangers or bolt brackets to use.

DF

Direct finish

DS

Direct start

FA

First ascent (with aid)

FH

Fixed Hanger. A bolt with a hanger permanently fixed to it.

FRA

First recorded ascent (it must have been done earlier)

FSA

First solo ascent

FTRA

First top rope ascent

LHV

Left-hand variant

LLR

Line of least resistance

PR

Piton Runner. A piton driven into a crack or weakness in the rock. Often dodgy.

Rap

Rappel or abseil

Ring Bolt. A single piece bolt manufactured into a ring.

*Do not assume because a route is not marked with a warning icon that it is safe. It's all relative. In the Glasshouses, it is safer to assume that all routes are unsafe, until you know differently.
