1- Common sense tells me you've got to look after your play-pen & interests- this means environmentally we've got to take care of the rocks and trees and publicly we've got to keep the climbing spots open. Let me explain this further diagramatically >>>>>>>>> If the trees are not chained >> trees are ring-barked >> tree dead >> possible dead person(s) >> no more anchors >>> no more climbs >>> bad publicity >>> closing of climbing areas >>> no more climbing ..........all sounds pretty grim, messy & bloody ............ 2- I do NOT comprehend how putting a chain on a tree changes the nature of a route. Whether it has a chain on it or not, is irrelevant, if there is a half decent tree at the top of a climb (and presumably all the trees with chains are half decent), climbers will use it to anchor off. 3- More people climbing at Frog and more people climbing safety at Frog! ..... god forbid .... I think we should let all of the suckers fall off the side of frog .... further, get rid of camming devices and any other fandango improved safety devices & the like .... bring back the hemp ropes and dunlops .......far too many sophisticated and safe climbers, climbing these days......................that's the most ridiculous thing i've heard of- if some bozo doesn't want to use a chain anchor, well that's his/her business ..........don't use the anchor- base jump off ......simple as that !
